Jacksonville State placed five individuals on the College Sports Communicators 2022 Academic All-District® Women's Soccer Team, announced by the organization this week.
Seniors Cynthia Bagozzi, Briana Eads and Isobel Spray were joined by juniors Aayanna Minott and Kylie Wells on the academic selection.
The organization recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.
All five of Jax state's selections exceed those qualifications on and off the playing surface. Bagozzi, an offensive threat since her first steps on campus, finished with 17 career goals and ranks tenth on JSU's career goals list. In 2022, she joined JSU's list of players recording a hat trick with a trio of goals against Alabama State. The Orlando, Florida native holds a 3.83 grade point average in psychology. Eads, a pillar on the JSU backline has started 63 matches and has logged over 5,400 minutes on the pitch throughout her career, which ranks ninth all-time at JSU. Eads, from Orange City, Florida, has a cumulative GPA of 3.62 in social work.
Spray has been one of the anchors in the midfield spot over the last four seasons. She has logged over 3,200 minutes and recorded a goal in the spring season of 2021. This past season, she saw action in 16 matches and tallied four shots. The native of York, England has a stellar 4.0 GPA in the sports management program at JSU.
Minott, who was honored last May as an Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholar, was tabbed to the team after playing in all 18 matches for the Gamecocks in 2022. The Acworth, Georgia native is majoring in accounting at JSU and has posted a 3.84 GPA. Wells, who led JSU in total shots with 39 this past season and collected three goals and an assist. The Littleton, Colorado native is on track for her undergraduate degree in special education with a GPA of 3.62.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.
