JSU drops tough road outing at Utah

JSU drops tough road outing at Utah

Utah opened a 19-0 lead over Jacksonville State to begin Thursday night's game and did not let up as the Gamecocks fell on the road to the Pac-12 opponent, 99-58.

Five of Jax State's (4-5) eight first half field goals were triples, but it wasn't enough as JSU trailed 45-23 at intermission at the Huntsman Center. Utah (8-2, 2-0 Pac-12) shot a blistering 56-percent overall and 57-percent from beyond the arc.

Clarence "Monzy" Jackson finished with 16 points to lead the Gamecocks. It marks the most points he's scored against a Division I opponent, and just one shy of his career best 17 which came against Shorter in the season opener. Skyelar Potter joined Jackson in double figures with 15. Senior Demaree King led JSU with seven first-half points, before finishing with nine.

Following five games on the road, Jax State will get to return to the friendly confines of Pete Mathews Coliseum on Wednesday, Dec. 14, when they host Reinhardt.
