Ada Long Creative Writing Workshop
Hosted by the UAB Department of English and co-sponsored by the University Honors Program, incoming high school freshmen and all high school students are eligible to apply to attend the 2023 Ada Long Creative Writing Workshop Summer Camp. From June 12-30, the 30 selected students will have the opportunity to work closely with accredited industry professionals.
While encouraged to find inspiration in Birmingham’s rich culture and history, students will be able to explore a variety of genres, including poetry, fiction, memoir and magazine production. Each week, students will draft, critique and revise original works that will be combined into the annually published piece, “The Writer’s Block.”
The cost of the camp is $800, and attendees can pay an additional $368 for an optional hour of college credit. Full and partial scholarships are available for students who find the cost of the camp fee prohibitive. However, financial aid will not cover the optional college credit.
