11 businesses registered in cities in Tallapoosa County during January

There were 11 businesses that registered in cities within Tallapoosa County during January, according to the Alabama Secretary of State.

This is 52 percent less than the month before, when 23 businesses were registered.

Alexander City registered the most businesses in Tallapoosa County.

More than 99 percent of Alabama's businesses are considered small, with more than 47 percent of Alabama's employees working for a small business, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration.

A Civic Economics study found $100 spent at a locally-owned business puts $47 back into the local economy while the total is just $13 for non-local businesses.
