There were 13 businesses registered in cities across Calhoun County in week ending Feb. 4

There were 13 businesses that registered in cities within Calhoun County in the week ending Feb. 4, according to the Alabama Secretary of State.

This is 160 percent more than the week before, when five businesses were registered.

Anniston registered the most businesses in Calhoun County.

More than 99 percent of Alabama's businesses are considered small, with more than 47 percent of Alabama's employees working for a small business, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration.

A Civic Economics study found $100 spent at a locally-owned business puts $47 back into the local economy while the total is just $13 for non-local businesses.
