Q1: Nine businesses registered in cities found in Clay County

There were nine businesses that registered in cities within Clay County during the first quarter of 2023, according to the Alabama Secretary of State.

This is 36 percent less than the quarter before, when 14 businesses were registered.

Lineville registered the most businesses in Clay County.

More than 99 percent of Alabama's businesses are considered small, with more than 47 percent of Alabama's employees working for a small business, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration.

A Civic Economics study found $100 spent at a locally-owned business puts $47 back into the local economy while the total is just $13 for non-local businesses.
