U.S. Representative Mike Rogers (R-AL), Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, issued a statement criticizing President Biden's opposition to a proposed 15% pay raise for junior enlisted servicemembers included in the Servicemember Quality of Life Improvement and National Defense Authorization Act.

"President Biden believes providing the men and women who serve in our Armed Forces with adequate compensation is too costly. This is offensive and wrong. Too many military families are relying on food banks, SNAP, and WIC in order to put food on the table," Rogers stated. He added that both Republicans and Democrats on the committee found this situation unacceptable.

The decision to propose a targeted 15% pay raise for junior enlisted servicemembers was based on research conducted by the bipartisan Quality of Life Panel in collaboration with the Department of Defense. Despite this, Rogers noted that "instead of supporting this commonsense proposal, President Biden is once again turning his back on our servicemembers."

Rogers concluded by expressing his belief that "the brave Americans who serve in our Armed Forces shouldn't have to worry about making ends meet," contrasting it with what he perceives as President Biden's stance.
