UAB School of Education receives full, national CAEP Accreditation
The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Education has received national accreditation from the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation in recognition of its excellence in providing quality programs for students.
“At the UAB School of Education, ensuring that graduates are excellent educators is our focus, and the review process allowed us to evaluate systems and make improvement plans moving forward,” said Lesley Sheek, Ph.D., director of Accreditation and Assessment in the School of Education. “We reflected on what makes UAB a great place to earn an education and saw how well we work together with our community partners.”
The CAEP review process requires programs to meet five initial and advanced certification standards that cover quality content knowledge, partnerships, quality of candidates, the impact of the program on completers and community partners, etc. Additionally, the cross-cutting themes of diversity and technology are infused throughout all standards at both certification levels.
The School of Education was first awarded national accreditation by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education in 1969. This CAEP accreditation status will last through 2028.
